Dem Michigan AG calls out Tlaib for ‘cruel’ and hateful’ comments on Israel

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel called on Rep. Rashida Tlieb to “retract” a “cruel and hateful” social media post after the representative tried to justify the pro-Palestinian chant, “From the River to the Sea.”

Nessel, a fellow Democrat, said she previously defended Tlieb “countless times” because she believed the representative’s “heart was in the right place.”

“@RashidaTlaib, I have supported and defended you countless times, even when you said the indefensible, because I believed you were a good person whose heart was in the right place,” Nessel wrote in an X post.

The Attorney General called out Tlaib for her “cruel and hateful comment,” saying it was “hurtful for so many.”

The Democratic Party AG’s comments came after Rep. Tlaib defended the chant, “From River to Sea.”

“From the River to the Sea is an ambitious call for freedom, human rights and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction or hatred,” the Democratic congresswoman wrote. “My work and advocacy has always focused on justice and dignity for all people, regardless of faith or nationality.”

Tlaib’s remarks sparked outrage on social media, with the Israel supporter blasting the spokesman’s remarks.

“From the river to the sea refers to the complete erasure of the Jewish state, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. It is also the battle cry of Hamas, a savage terrorist group that decapitates babies and rapes women. You repeat terrorists.” StopAntisemitism, a non-profit organization, wrote to X.

Representative Byron Donalds, Republican of Florida, wrote on X, “From River to Sea is a rallying call to erase the State of Israel. If that’s ambitious to you, that’s a problem. Stand with Israel.”

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene called on Tlaib to resign after her post.

“Terrorist Tlaib promotes the genocide of all Jewish people in Israel and calls it ambitious,” Congressman Greene wrote in a post X. “‘From the river to the sea’ means wipe out all Jews and take their land by river at sea. You must resign and go to Gaza and fight on the front lines for Hamas.”
